Four habits for today

Simple actions that work for parents, children, and teens without turning home into a security lecture.

Pause before you tap

Urgency is a trick. Stop before opening a link, sharing a code, or accepting a surprising offer.

Keep accounts locked

Use a different password for every account and turn on two-step verification.

Talk without blame

Make it easy to report mistakes. Fast, calm conversations stop small problems from growing.

Protect personal details

Keep school, location, routines, passwords, and private photos out of public chats.

Practice together

What would you do?

These three short scenarios are a starting point. More realistic, multi-step simulations are in development.

Video game safety without ruining the fun

The goal is not to watch every move. It is to help young players recognize risk, ask for help early, and recover when something goes wrong.

Before the game begins

  • Use an age-appropriate account and review privacy, chat, friend request, and purchase settings together.
  • Choose a screen name that does not reveal a real name, birth year, school, team, or location.
  • Protect the account with a unique password and two-step verification.

While playing

  • Online friends are still strangers until a trusted adult has safely verified who they are.
  • Do not move conversations to private apps or share photos, location, school, routines, or login codes.
  • Mute, block, and report harassment. Leaving a match is not losing.

Skins, coins, and “free” rewards

  • Free currency and rare-item offers are common bait for account theft.
  • Agree on a spending limit and require approval before purchases. Turn off one-click buying when possible.
  • Never trade outside the game’s official marketplace or share a login to claim a prize.

When something feels wrong

Stop responding. Save useful evidence without forwarding harmful content. Block and report the account, tell a trusted adult, and change passwords if account information was shared. If someone threatens immediate harm or tries to arrange an in-person meeting, contact local emergency services.

A phrase every child should hear:

“You will not lose your device because you told me the truth. We will solve this together.”

This guide provides general education, not legal or emergency advice. Game controls differ by platform and change over time.

Make a four-point family promise.

Create a calm plan before a difficult digital moment happens.
